gold wand, creating holiday magic

Creating Holiday Magic

December 08, 20222 min read

Do you believe in magic? I do. I totally believe in magic. Are you ready to create that holiday magic that’s in the air at this time of the year into your studio?

The first thing that I would implore you to do is to focus on the joy and the spirit of the season with our students, our parents, and our community. I think that it's really, really imperative for us to focus on the fun.

What can you do inside your studio right now that isn't some big extra thing, but where you could focus on the fun?

Here are some ideas for a fun-focused season:

Letting your students pick the music for the week.

Themed classes are not just for the tiny tots; our older students love a good-themed class. Ideas include: one teacher is having an ugly sweater-themed class where they're all going to come in ugly sweaters. Another teacher is going to have her class decorate some sweaters together. You can do Polar Express, Frosty the Snowman, or Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. There are a lot of ways to focus on these themes in your studio.

It’s a really great time for us to talk and share diversity inside of our community and talk about Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Diwali.

Dance history. Dance through the decades.

Experience trumps things. Your students and staff don’t need another thing; they need a great experience.

A way to put some holiday magic into your staff is to gift them something that means something. Logo wear and coffee cups are great, but this year go a bit deeper. One way I do this is to ask my staff to take the Five Love Languages Assessment. This helps me to find out what motivates them and fills their heart. Gift them to their love language and it will make for a greater impact and joy. It takes a bit more time and thought, but it means that you're connected with your staff.

The experiences you create and the magic you make will translate into studio growth. If you can get people to come in and experience the magic of your studio, they will know, like, and trust you, and then they will sign up for classes. This is why it is so imperative for us to be actively planning things on our calendar that will bring people in for an experience.

By experience, it’s not just to come in for a trial class. That could be an experience, but you want to make sure all the details are covered to put your studio over the top in comparison to the others in the neighborhood.

People pay for experiences.
